Podshow Press is proud to announce the signing of the one and only Soccergirl to our growing roster of authors. SG’s book (we’re still deciding on a title) is finished with a cover shoot planned for this week. I completely fell in love with the manuscript for this book. It’s funny, smart and very, very dangerous, just like Soccergirl herself. We’re hoping for an early summer release. Stay tuned for more details coming soon.

With a little luck, we’ll be announcing a pair of author deals with PSP shortly. The contracts are out. One of them is with a very well known member of the podcast community whose work may surprise you. She sent me her manuscript this morning and so far it’s pure amazingness.

Also of interest, today Jeff Bezos, C.E.O. of Amazon, announced that their Kindle e-book reader has exceeded their sales projections. So much so that they’re having trouble keeping up with demand. I’ve heard a lot of people say the Kindle is a platform with no future but I have to strongly disagree. I remember how clunky the original first generation iPod seemed and how expensive that was when it first came out and now look at it. The first gen Kindle hardware may be a bit, well... a lot less than perfect and the integration of the internet a bit, well... a lot half-assed but the idea is solid and obviously, the market is growing. Yeah, it looks like some kind of kid’s learning toy from the mid 1990’s but the technology involved, from the e-ink screen to the Whispernet wireless content delivery is pretty cool stuff. Will we be offering Podshow Press titles for Kindle? Absolutely.

Podshow Press welcomes to its roster of signed authors the talented Mark Linder. “Bedtime Stories My Kids Love Presents: The Adventures of Man in the Can” is a collection of tales from Mark’s very well known podcast “Bedtime Stories My Kids Love” on Podshow. I, for one, am a big fan of this show and I really think those of you with kids who love to read AND those of you who love to read to your kids will, well, love this book. Mark is planning a special companion to BSMKL to go along with the release of Man in the Can so those Bedtime Stories fans out there will have plenty to enjoy this year.

Mark has just turned in a draft of the manuscript and I will keep you updated on a release date as we get closer. I am excited about this book and am looking forward to releasing it in 2008.

I thought you might enjoy this since both Patrick and Matt are so passionate about storytelling. Join me for breakfast with the director and screenwriter of the new Universal release White Noise 2: The Light as we talk about moviemaking, storytelling, what went into bringing this movie to life from the original script and why WN2 is a stand-alone, original story and not really a sequel.

I’ve been doing an informal little writing podcast called Word Sushi for the past few months. Mostly it’s a video podcast but I got Seth on Skype to b.s. a bit about writing, movies, his influences and the release of his first novel in print on March 16th...

UPDATE: Here are the links to all 3 parts.

Seth Harwood Interview - pt. 1

Seth Harwood Interview - pt. 2

Seth Harwood Interview - pt. 3

I am very, very pleased and excited to announce the signing of the very funny and talented Dawn Miceli to Podshow Press for her upcoming book “My Cherry Pop”, a collection of true stories submitted by her listeners about how they lost their virginity. Honestly, when Dawn told me about this idea I laughed so hard I was gasping for breath. I think it’s gonna be a great project and I can’t imagine anyone doing it the kind of justice that Dawn will. Included in this collection will, of course, be a very detailed description of Dawn’s own tender moment (I’m assuming it’s tender, I could be wrong).

My Cherry Pop will begin as a podcast in a few months and we’re looking at putting it out in print sometime in Fall 2008.

Listen to the announcement on the Dawn & Drew Show #704

Stay tuned to this site for details, coming soon (no pun intended), including links on how to submit your own story to Dawn.

www.dawnanddrew.com

A lot has changed in the world over the past few years, not the least of which is how you get your entertainment. New media has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that you have a lot more choices available to you now than ever before thanks to the internet. If you think that these choices are mostly inferior to what big media has been offering you all these years, I beg to differ and so would growing legions of millions of new media entertainment consumers who are spending more time than ever online than watching TV, reading newspapers or listening to the radio. In fact a study by financial advisory firm Deloitte & Touche shows that 38% of Americans are watching TV shows online and market research and consulting firm Horowitz and Associates found that an astounding 9 out of 10 broadband internet users have watched videos online in the past month.

Arguablly, you could say the last time such a massive revolution in how free ideas could be spread occurred was nearly 600 years ago when a German man named Gutenberg invented the printing press. And though the method of entertainment distribution has evolved to fit our “on demand this nanosecond” world, one thing remains constant: the desire to create and consume great stories.

Over the past two years, as a new media professional, I have seen astounding growth in the world of podcasting, all of which, to me, has paled in comparison to the massive growth of serialized audiobook content and the audiences that ravenously consume it. And thanks to success stories like that of Scott Sigler’s 5-book deal with Crown and J.C. Hutchins amazing success with “7th Son” and its coming release in major trade print by St. Martin’s Press in 2009 we are seeing that new media is starting to become the breeding ground for a new generation of literary rock stars-writers who not only tell great stories but successfully build communities around their brand and their work.

In short, new media is quickly turning the book business on its ear in the same way mp3’s and the internet changed the record business forever.

As a writer who has been lucky to make a living with his creative work and a current new media executive at Podshow, I had a vision in late 2006 of a way to take the concept of book publishing, the oldest form of media, and marry it to the growing online entertainment revolution. We would take some of the best audiobooks being exclusively podcast on our network and turn them into print, extending the reach of these great properties while giving the creators another path to promote and monetize their work with what I think is a pretty sweet deal.

In short, we’d use the oldest analog format known to man to allow fans to show support to their favorite new media authors. How cool is that?

As of this writing, we’ve started signing authors to Podshow Press (details coming shortly) and you will see our first titles come out in a few months from now. Until then, please subscribe to this blog and come back often to find out what kind of exciting developments are on the forefront for our little renegade publishing imprint. I promise it will be interesting.

Best,
Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff
Editor in Chief, Podshow Press

P.S. Don’t forget to check out our F.A.Q.
